About Under39

Ben Young, founder of Under39

Hi, I’m Ben Young.

I started Under39 at 29 as a long-term record of what I test, learn and build on the way to 39—and beyond.

After graduating, I began working in operations for Intehill portable monitors. That work gave me years of direct exposure to portable displays: how they are positioned, how customers choose them, the connection problems people run into, and the small product details that matter after the unboxing.

Under39 begins with portable monitors because this is the category I know best. My goal is to provide practical reference points for people choosing a display for work, travel, gaming, MacBook setups and mobile workspaces.

Why Under39 exists

Most product pages are built around specifications. Specifications matter, but they do not explain everything. A portable monitor can look excellent on paper and still be awkward to power, difficult to carry or disappointing in real use.

I want Under39 to focus on the questions people actually have: Does it work with my laptop? Is one USB-C cable enough? Is OLED worth it? Does 120Hz matter? Is the stand stable? Is it pleasant to use every day?

Where this can go

Portable monitors are the starting point, not the final limit. Over time, Under39 may expand into other products I can genuinely test and understand through hands-on experience. The standard will stay the same: clear context, honest trade-offs and no fake certainty.
